James : How to live wisely in the real world

The Christian faith is to be lived out in the real world.

Faith is living. It is practical. The truths we believe in our heads are meant to affect every area of our lives and to affect not just our hearts but also our lips, wallets and hands.

This Autumn, we will be looking at the book of James together. 

James is one of the most practical books in the whole of the Bible. It is packed full of wisdom and in that sense is to the New Testament what Proverbs is to the Old Testament. The letter was written by James, the brother of Jesus, sometime before he was killed by a violent mob in 62 AD.

The Christian life is challenging. Lots of wisdom is required. Thankfully the Lord has made that available to us through his Word.

James pulls no punches. He says that our faith is useless if it doesn’t make any difference to the way we live. How we treat other people, how we speak to each other, how we use our money, how we suffer, how we pray - all of this really matters because it shows that our faith is real.

Our hope and prayer is that this series will give us a deeper realisation of just how practical our faith is and that the Lord would use the book of James to shape and reshape different areas of our lives so that they are more aligned with the ways in which he wants us to live.
