Three years ago, this church started asking a hard question: what if leadership meant releasing people, not managing them? Here's what we're still learning.
A family, not a crowd
Church isn't a service you attend. It's a family you belong to. Toddlers and grandparents worship in the same room, eat at the same tables, and get prayed for by the same people.
Leaders who release, not control
We're led by a team of elders, deacons and trustees, not one person with all the answers. Our job isn't to keep you dependent on us. It's to help you flourish, wherever God sends you.
Faith that's rooted, not trendy
We take the Bible seriously and we take the Holy Spirit seriously. No hype, no performance. Just Jesus, at the centre, every single week.
What actually happens when you walk in
Arrive to coffee, not a spotlight
Nobody will make you stand up, wear a name badge, or introduce yourself to the room. Grab a coffee and find a seat.
We sing, we pray, we open the Bible
Around twenty minutes of teaching, explained plainly and applied honestly to ordinary life in Exeter.
Stick around
The best conversations happen over coffee afterwards, not during the notices. Nobody will rush you out the door.
Good to know before you come
- Dress code: whatever you'd wear to see a friend. Jeans are normal. Suits are fine too.
- Kids: warmly looked after in age-appropriate groups, or welcome to stay with you. Either way works.
- Parking: free, on-site, no need to arrive early to find a space.
- Not sure what you believe? Come anyway. Most of us started there too.

Questions people actually ask
No. Most of the room isn't watching the door, they're getting on with worship and life together. Nobody will single you out, put a spotlight on you, or ask you to do anything you're not ready for.
Whatever you'd wear to see a friend. Jeans are normal. Suits are fine too. We're far more interested in you than your outfit.
Children are warmly looked after in age-appropriate groups by DBS-checked leaders, with full safeguarding in place throughout. Younger children are always welcome to stay in the main room too, so please don't worry about noise.
Honestly, that's most of us. Grace Church is full of people who are still working things out. Come with your questions. We'd rather you brought your doubts than left them at the door.
